why people

I find that I personally identify with a piece that includes a figure, so it's not surprising to see them in my work. Often people ask if these are self portraits or biographical in some way. I would say no, and that is true visually, but when it comes to the words that I sometimes include in my work, that's a different story.

what's with the words

I began to include a sort of stream of conciousness writing in my work, using it as a sort of pattern. It's all about the process with me, so I am usually writing what I am feeling at that moment and then it’s gone. These writings materialize as the painting evolves and are often hard to decipher.

what's with the background

Many of the shapes and patterns I include in my paintings today appear in my childhood art. Some I just enjoy or find fun to draw, while other shapes are symbolic.
